Shingles is a very painful skin condition that results from the reactivation of the varicella zoster virus, the herpesvirus responsible for Chickenpox. This virus can reactive due to several reasons, including immunosuppression. Shingles is classically described as a painful eruption of groups of vesicles on an erythematous base. It occurs in three different phases, which we discuss in this lesson. Diagnosis of shingles can occur by a few methods, including viral swab for viral DNA. Treatment of shingles depends on the timing of the infection, and prevention of shingles involves the use of vaccinations, which we also discuss in this lesson.<\/p>\n
I hope you found this lesson helpful.
