Get the G.I.S.T."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href='' target='_blank' rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">  <\/a><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"580\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_8oN1-_zntY\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><br \/>\n<br \/>For over 10 years, like a good young lady, I\u2019ve practiced what I\u2019ve been taught in school, especially the recommendation to create a SWOT analysis when building or marketing a business. <\/p>\n<p>For those of you unfamiliar with the common business practice &#8211; SWOT Analysis is comprised of a report including a detailed list of the following:<br \/>\n-Strengths of business<br \/>\n-Weaknesses<br \/>\n-Opportunities<br \/>\n-Threats<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s always bothered me to list weaknesses and then opportunities. Mainly because any weakness IS an opportunity. This feels incredibly redundant. Any positive minded business person would prefer to phrase their weaknesses as opportunities. For this reason, let\u2019s imagine we strike the Weaknesses portion of this report, as it\u2019s completely unnecessary. <\/p>\n<p>Now, to my real problem with the SWOT: Threats. As a driven creative, it\u2019s hard to place a huge focus on what competitors are doing. I\u2019m from the FIRM belief that if you focus on your strengths, core value and opportunities and make a firm commitment to live to your personal potential &#8211; no competitor will even come close to competing with you. <\/p>\n<p>Please, read the bolded sentence again: If YOU focus on your strengths, core values and opportunities while making a firm commitment to live to your personal potential &#8211; NO competitor will even come close to competing with you. <\/p>\n<p>In short, YOU are your only real competition. All too often, I see business owners obsessing over what others are doing, instead of focusing on the needs of their audience. <\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s fix this. From now on, instead of practicing the SWOT, let\u2019s practice the GIST! The word gist, stands for the abbreviated or condensed main meaning of something. The gist of your situational analysis can be created by following the below method.<\/p>\n<p>G: Growth Opportunities &#8211; Outline of marketing plan<\/p>\n<p>I: Innovation Opportunities &#8211; List 3-5 ways your business will innovate this quarter<\/p>\n<p>S: System Opportunities &#8211; List 3-5 ways your business operations can improve or become more efficient<\/p>\n<p>T: Team Opportunities &#8211; List the positions available and plans for recruitment<\/p>\n<p>Would you like assistance with your GIST analysis?
