INTRODUCTION

As a general notion, the profession of dentist deals only with teeth, which is a common misconception among people. This feild goes deep to the craniofacial complex, lymphatic, nervous, vascular and anatomical structures.

NEET- UG by NTA-National Testing Agency
You have to clear this exam to get enrolled in the dental colleges, generally Bachelors in dentistry (BDS) is a 4 year program along with 1 year of internship(variable). The first two years are devoted to lab and theoretical knowledge about the science. Courses may include oral pathology, dental diagnosis, and dental treatment techniques. In the last two years, students typically complete a dental rotation externship, which is usually conducted in the dental clinics and allow students to treat patients under supervision.
Those who complete this will get the BDS degree and will be eligible to practise the dentistry in their state by being licenced in their respective state. Alone dentistry consists of many sub fields and after BDS degree and internship, you can go for Post graduation.
Masters or MDS in any below mentioned fileds is available both in government colleges as well as private colleges. The postgraduate degree will allow you to specialise in any many fields related to dentistry and make your career in that specialised field.

• Geriatric dentistry,
• Oral and maxillofacial pathology, previously oral pathology

Whatever college you choose you should see that the institution must have been approved by the Dental Council of India.

This video is a simulated dental appointment with Dr Chhaya Chauhan (GDC: 83940) and Jon Love of Electric Teeth.

See what you can generally expext as part of a regular/routine dental checkup.

Key Points:

– Attend you check-up regularly

– Try not to be too nervous

– You will be asked to fill in a form with your personal details name, address etc

– You will be asked to fill in a medical form and update it every time you attend so

– Ask lots of questions, a check is an opportunity to have an open dialogue

– A check will usually start off with ‘taking a history’ which means asking lots of questions about your dental habits such as:
– Do you have any problems with your teeth, if so can you describe the problem and its history
– How often you brush and floss
– What your diet is like (sugar and acid intake)
– Any habits such as smoking, alcohol etc

– The dentist will then check the skin inside and outside your mouth and feel the lymphnodes in your neck

– They will then chart each tooth in your mouth

– They will then check your gums

– If needed, xrays will be taken

– Any relevant finding will be explained to you and options are given about what treatment is needed and a treatment plan formulated for you.
