Young children need mild to deep sedation for various dental treatments to manage anxiety. We have multiple options to sedate a child for dental treatment. The type of sedation depends upon the treatment required and the child’s behavior during the treatment.
In this particular case, we have used an intravenous (IV) sedation as the child was non-cooperative, irritated, and required cavity treatment in all four quadrants of the mouth. Cavity treatment was followed by preventive dentistry (fluoride varnish application) to minimize the probability of reoccurring cavities.
An anesthetist managed the sedation dose and monitored the vitals throughout the treatment and until the child woke up. This collaborative approach resulted in a successful pain-free, no-tear full mouth rehabilitation. You can see the joy on his mother’s face after the treatment.
